Dot-Prompts
A local Windows prompt library with a floating panel, searchable banks and tags, and one-click copying that keeps notes separate.
The problem
Useful prompts need to stay available between sessions without interrupting the editor or browser where they will be used. Digging through notes and selecting the right fragment adds friction to something that should take one click.
The approach
Dot-Prompts keeps a searchable prompt library in a movable, always-on-top Windows panel. Prompts belong to banks and can have multiple tags. Separate prompt notes and bank rules keep context close without becoming part of the copied text.
Pocket, Split, and Focus offer three views of the same library. The panel can shrink into a draggable icon without losing unsaved edits, or hide to the system tray until needed again.
What makes it useful
- One-click copying preserves the exact saved prompt, including whitespace, and excludes notes.
- Search covers prompt text, names, and notes, narrowed by bank and tags.
- Tapping Shift twice captures selected text through Windows accessibility into a new, unsaved draft.
- Banks, prompts, tags, and viewing preferences persist in a local SQLite library.
Native and local
Tauri 2 and Rust own the tray, window lifecycle, and SQLite transactions. React and TypeScript render the panel. A save succeeds only when its transaction commits; a failed write leaves the draft open rather than claiming the text was saved.
The core app needs no account, cloud service, or model connection. It does not generate or execute prompts, collect clipboard history, or upload the library. Local storage is not an encrypted vault.
Status
Free, closed-source Windows application, distributed through its public download site. A Mac version is announced but is not available yet.
